Biographical / Historical

Laguna College of Art + Design is a private college located in Laguna Beach, California. Established in 1961 as the Laguna Beach School of Art, providing professional education in the arts within a city that fostered thriving community of creativity.

The LCAD Permanent Collection preserves and documents the artistic legacy of the college, its community, and the excellence of other artists. The collection consists primarily of works created by alumni, faculty, and artists based in Laguna Beach or surrounding areas. Additionally, some works have been acquired through donations, purchases, commissions, and institutional transfers. Collectively, these works illustrate the artistic practice, instruction, and creative excellence of the college and Southern California, overall, from founding to present.

70 Items : 59 oil, 7 watercolor, 3 acrylic, and 1 ink painting from various artists. Some dates are unknown, but the overall range for dated artworks is 1952-2025.

15 Items : 9 charcoal, 4 ink, and 2 graphite drawings from various artists. Some dates are unknown, but the overall range for dated artworks is 1962-2019.

15 Items : 7 bronze, 2 steel, 2 stone, 1 sheet metal, 1 plaster, 1 wood, and 1 unknown sculpture, primarily bronze, from various artists. Some dates are unknown, but the overall range for dated artworks is 1973-2016.

19 Items : 5 photographic, 4 serigraph, 4 digital art, 2 giclée, 2 lithograph, 1 etching and engraving, 1 Hahnemühle print from various artists, including notable names such as Moebius and Marc Chagall. Some dates are unknown, but the overall range for dated artworks is 1968-2022.

6 Items : 5 mixed media and 1 paper collage artwork from various artists. One date is unknown, but the overall range for dated artworks is 1987-2016.
